Hiatus Read Through: Week 5
Week 5: Episodes 66-81
This week, we’re reading through EPISODES 66-81. In these episodes, we get some big reveals. Hades has met Persephone before! Hera and Hades used to hook up? The Fates know Persephone’s ultimate, well, fate…and we do, too. We also learn what happened to Psyche, what Eros did after she tried to stab him, and what Aphrodite had to do to get her son out of trouble. We see Hades in a really low point, but we also see him buoyed up by Persephone’s affection in Hera’s garden (and we get one of those almost-kisses!). Finally, Apollo shows up to ruin everything for everyone.

Discussion Questions
Eros is very emotionally intelligent, but only a short time ago, he was willing to force a girl to fall in love with a monster. Do you think his knowledge of consent is at odds with his role of making mortals fall in love with his powers?
Do you think Hades has the emotional support he needed to break free from Minthe before Persephone’s arrival?
Do you see Hera as a supportive friend for Hades?
How do you feel about The Garden?
Trivia
Hades has Persephone in his phone as “Kore.” (Episode 67)
Zeus has a video feed to the Mortal Realm. (Episode 69)
Aphrodite sleeps with Zeus in exchange for Eros not being punished for his act of wrath. Eros tells her that she didn’t have to that, and she responds with, “Yeah? Why don’t you go chat with Prometheus about Zeus’ punishments?” In original mythology, Prometheus was a Titan who gave the gift of fire to the human race. This enraged Zeus, who punished him by chaining him to a boulder and having an eagle eat his liver every day. (Episode 69)
You need a permit to commit an act of wrath. (Episode 69)
Minthe has a hickey on her neck. (Episode 73)
The being escorting Minthe out of the building is the fury, Tisiphone. (Episode 77)
Hades was imprisoned in Kronos for 13 years, and lost his ability to speak. (Episode 78)
“Siciliana” is one of three Lore Olympus episodes with music. The music for this episode was composed by Sophism, who is also the author of the webcomic “Purple Hyacinth.” IG @deadsophism (Episode 80)
Easter Eggs
Eros and Persephone are watching an Olympus version of The Seven Year Itch, a famous Marilyn Monroe film in which Monroe plays a beautiful blonde with a neighbor that struggles with thoughts of infidelity after meeting her. (Episode 66)
Hades has a porn pop-up ad on his computer to “Find flower nymphs in your area today!” (Episode 69)
Hades is wearing a red pocket square. (Episode 69)
Eros has a tiger costume in his closet. (Episode 70)
Hades has a hydra on his shirt, the Olympus version of Lacoste’s crocodile. (Episode 73)
Persephone is writing with a Barley Mother pen. (Episode 75)
When Persephone imagines herself going on a date, the hand helping her out of the car is blue; we can assume she’s imagining a date with Hades. (Episode 75)
When the Fates are looking at the future Queen Persephone, they are mimicking the famous proverb, “See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil.” (Episode 75)
The Fates say that Hades doesn’t have his brother’s voyeuristic spirit, while holding a tape labeled, “Thetis Vol 25.” (Episode 75)
Important Points and Episode References
Aphrodite and Ampelus were gone all night searching for Ares in the Mortal Realm (Episode 68)
When Aphrodite is discussing Eros’ killing of 300 mortals, she mentions that Artemis and Apollo did “something similar a while ago” and they weren’t reprimanded for it. She accuses Zeus of playing favorites. We don’t know yet what this is in reference to. (Episode 69)
Hades looks at the bottle of liquor and says to it, “Somehow this is your fault.” This is a line that is echoed in a later episode, when Hades is talking to Cerberus after Hades and Persephone kiss. (Episode 72)
You can see Persephone’s shadow when Demeter and Hecate are talking about Hades being on the property. We later learn that Persephone was listening to their conversation. (Episode 72)
Hebe catches her parents lurking, when they’re spying on Hades and Persephone in the garden, and calls them “perverts.” This is a callback to a previous episode in which Hera told Hebe that “lurking is a pervert’s sport.” (Episode 80)
At the end of “Take,” Persephone takes Apollo’s lyre and says, “This is war.” We later learn that Ares heard her all the way from the Mortal Realm. (Episode 81)
Hades and Apollo have a confrontation. Persephone declares war.
