Episode 99: Cupid’s Arrow

Apollo reveals that he knows Persephone is a fertility goddess and while others may be unaware or are hiding it, he’s not an idiot. Eros crashes into the bathroom to protect Persephone. The son of war and love is clearly a being willing to do anything to protect the ones he loves. Eros makes his own threats that hint at Apollo’s doomed love life in mythology and Apollo leaves after saying “See you on Friday!”

Apollo leaves and Eros brings Persephone in a hug. As Persphone is trying to push through the day without processing her feelings and with great care, he gently encourages her to agree to decompress in the safety of his home. Even though Persephone’s grades at school are slipping because of this crisis, she agrees to take the day off as he suggested.

“Leave my friend alone, or I swear I’ll ruin any chance you have of ever finding love.”
Eros

As they fly to Eros’ home, Ampelus opens up about her own history of escaping an arranged marriage. The thought of an arranged marriage scares Persephone but it doesn’t appear like the idea of it is unfamiliar to her. Eros’ home has this open-natured feeling to it. He yells from the kitchen that he got sidetracked and skipped his chores and that no one embarrasses him while Persephone is there. We get to see the kind of relationship Eros has with his father Ares. It becomes clear that Eros is bossy but loving towards his father and Ares doesn’t really have a typically authoritative role as a father.

Ares reveals his sensitive nature in this episode by showing his concern for Persephone and apologizing for how he manipulated her. Ares is ultimately more interesting than his obnoxious behavior implies and we get to explore his character further in the next episode.
