Episode 86: A Fine Line

Face to face with Ares, Persephone panics, bristles and simply replies ...No. Jokingly, Ares states that he thought she would be happy to see him, which Persephone denies, as forget-me-not flowers appear in her hair. Ares mockingly imitates her as she worriedly turns to face away from him. He continues to goad her, and asks an unimpressed Persephone where her mother is as he wouldn’t want to be beaten with a pitchfork again.

“Last time I saw you, you were plump with optimism. But now you’re SO angry. You’re practically rotting on the inside.”

Ares continues to tease her, taking her wrists and flailing her arms around. He queries if Demeter knows that she is in the Underworld as he spins her towards him crossing her arms in front of her.

Persephone replies that her mother does not know she is in the Underworld is not going to find out.

Pulling away, she asks why he is here to which Ares replies that she may already know as he rests his chin on her head.

Persephone refutes this claim to which Ares says it is because she is the angriest goddess in the entire pantheon, beside Hera who is constantly angry (flash to a panel of a visibly upset Hera who has damaged Poseidon and Amphirite’s wedding portrait by burning Zeus in the painting.).

Ares then talks about how the last time he had seen her she was young and optimistic whilst condescently patting her head. He continues to say that she is so angry that she is rotting from inside, and that he could feel it all the way in the mortal realm. Leaning over her as she steps away from him, Ares asks what has got her so worked up. Turning away, Persephone states that she doesn’t want to talk about it, but Ares continues to press her. Angrily, she demands to know why he is pressing her to which he responds that it’s interesting and that she is interesting. Head in her hands, Persephone exclaims that she wants this day to end.

The daimon in front of them turns around and tells them to get a room. Angrily, Ares looms over him, picks him up and throws him out of the window. Persephone grabs Ares’ arm and pleads with him that it wasn’t necessary. Using this moment of vulnerability Ares returns to inciting Persephone.

An increasingly incensed Persephone, who now has vines trailing from her hair, turns away from Ares who decides to guess as to what is bothering her.

Persephone pleads with him to stop, who simply replies that she is the one who wants war, having felt her call. Ares goes on to query about her name change, citing that there are no stories or documents detailing it. Grabbing her hair and placing it over his head, Ares starts to mockingly serenade her until she gives in and tells him that she is mad at Hades.

Ares knows that Hades is not the reason she is angry but implores her to tell him anyway. After explaining what happened Ares advises that he would have just killed the reporter, and she was angry because Hades never asked her to help out.

Enraged by Ares constant manipulations, Persephone screams at him, calling him a smug bastard and calling him out for acting like he knows her. As she’s screaming at him, he remains unmoved, smiling smugly. Persephone is suddenly grounded by Hades calling her name. Ares grabs Persephone’s wrist, and mockingly urges her to tell Hades why she’s angry with him.

The morning glory is a blue flower with a yellow center and often symbolizes a bond of affection, other times signifying a vain love. Persephone bloomed these when becoming reacquainted with Ares in the Underworld.

When Persephone made the entire world bloom, flower petals are seen falling through a huge hole by the massive royal portrait in Hera and Zeus’ mansion. In Episode 86, when Ares was talking about her mother’s rage, she was seen burning the painting.
