Episode 31: A Treat for Being a Fool
Editor: Bekah Caden and Annie LaHue
Released: 30 September 2018
Persephone panics about Hera assigning her for an internship in the Underworld, especially after revealing details about her personal life. She fears that he will find her incompetent and think she is a “dumb village girl.” She tells Hera that there must have been a mistake, and that Hera overestimates her capabilities. She offers to work in her gardens instead, but Hera refuses, saying it would be too easy. Hera reminds Persephone that she is bright enough and that she was even able to get a scholarship for school.
Persephone tells her that she is, indeed, sponsored by The Goddesses of Eternal Maidenhood (TGOEM). This stops Hera in her tracks, and she internally curses Hestia for making her job harder by recruiting goddesses in her organization.
“Wouldn’t you prefer to speak with him in person, rather than whispering your secrets to an old painting?”
Hera
Persephone grows nervous that Hera may be able to sense that she is no longer a virgin and rambles on about Hestia and Demeter’s enthusiasm about TGOEM, and how she must keep her grades up, be a role model, and attend events for the organization. Hera reminds her that she also has to be a virgin forever.
This causes Persephone to briefly flash to what happened with Apollo. Once she regains her composure, she tells Hera that she is still an initiate and has not officially joined yet. Hera is relieved and asks if she is sure she doesn’t want to get married, as that is her specialty and she has two eligible sons.
Persephone is slightly embarrassed and admits that she has never actually thought about marriage. Hera tells Persephone to let her know if she changes her mind, and then whispers that wouldn’t Persephone want to talk to Hades in person instead of talking to an old portrait. Hera then holds on to Persephone’s hand in reassurance, causing her to have a distressing vision.
Persephone asks if she’s alright, and Hera brushes her off and sends her on her way. As Persephone is leaving, she worriedly looks after and wonders who had hurt her.
The Dread Queen has arrived, and Kronos is not prepared.
