Editor: Bre Boswell
Released: 20 September 2020
Hades realized that the nearby pedestrian wears the comb that he gave to Persephone. The two get into a scuffle as Hades tries to grab the comb from her. An angry Hecate sits them both down and scolds them for embarrassing her. The pedestrian points to a pawn shop window and tells Hades and Hecate that is where she got the comb.
Hades takes the comb to the 1/2 pawn shop window and demands to know about the person who sold the comb. The pawnshop clerk refused due to their privacy policy, and isn’t even swayed by Hades attempted a bribe.
“The sun never touches the Underworld. It’s the perfect place.”
Persephone
Growing angry at the pawn shop clerk’s refusal to tell him about Persephone, Hades begins to transform into his primordial form. When he sees the clerk sweating, he stops himself and grows upset, saying he only wants to know if the owner of the comb is safe. He has the painful realization that he doesn’t know the owner of the comb very well—her birthday or any special belongings.
What he does know, however, is that the owner of comb wouldn’t have sold it if she didn’t have to, if she was safe. The pawn shop worker thinks back to her interaction with Persephone. Persephone tried to pawn her books and laptop first, but was told they were all junk or worthless. Reluctantly, Persephone pulls out the comb and her mother’s brooch. The pawn shop worker said the brooch was “junk” but she gave her 2,000 drachma for the comb. Persephone hesitates, saying that someone important gave her the comb, and that she is ashamed.
Hades continues to plead with the worker who eventually relents and says that Persephone hadn’t looked in high spirits and seemed to be leaving in a hurry. The worker asked Persephone what a being like her was doing in the Underworld, and Persephone responded, “The sun never touches the Underworld. It’s the perfect place.”
The Dread Queen has arrived, and Kronos is not prepared.
