Episode 120: The Lunch Date

Hera has transformed into Persephone in order to go to lunch with Demeter, to cover up the fact that Persephone is missing. Donning Mortal Realm garb, she realizes that she’s had no time to prepare, and doesn’t even know what Persephone studies at school (and neither do Eros or Artemis).
Hera greets Demeter awkwardly, clearly worried that Demeter will see through her disguise, but Demeter doesn’t. Hera is unimpressed by the establishment Demeter has chosen for lunch, and wonders aloud how many brands of gin might be on the menu. This shocks Demeter, and Hera quickly covers up, saying that she was interested because of Barley Mother’s juniper berry exports. Demeter is delighted that “Persephone” is taking an interest in the family business.
“What do you think? Pretty impressive, huh?”
Hera
Hera snaps open a fan and threatens the waiter that he better not be pouring her tap water. Demeter is mortified by “Persephone’s” behavior and demands to know what has gotten into her. Hera brushes it off by saying she is stressed and cranky. Demeter panics at this, leaning in conspiratorially to “Persephone” and asking if she feels like she did before “the accident,” making her promise to tell her if she is feeling that way.

Hera has no idea what Demeter is talking about, and cavalierly declares that she will just take a nap if she feels that way again. Demeter is clearly confused, but thankful that Persephone isn’t beating herself up anymore. She then asks about school to a nervous Hera.
Across the street at a music store called “Calliope’s,” an impressed Apollo is examining the new lyre Calliope has crafted for him, which won’t be fully finished until the end of the week. Apollo catches sight of “Persephone” across the street, hugging Demeter goodbye as they head in opposite directions (Hera very pleased with herself for fooling Demeter, and wondering what she meant by the accident).
Apollo grabs “Persephone’s” arm, demanding that they need to talk, and takes her into a back alley. He says he’s been trying to reach her but her phone has been disconnected, and states that she didn’t tell Artemis or Daphne. Hera plays dumb, not knowing what Apollo is talking about, and Apollo wants to know why she’s acting weird. He then grabs her arm again, but this time, it burns his hand. Hera has transformed back into herself, and greets Apollo.

NEW CHARACTER: CALLIOPE
In Mythology, Calliope is one of the Nine Muses and is the patron of epic poetry. Hesiod writes her as the wisest of the Muses, and in one mythological tale, she judged the dispute between Aphrodite and Persephone over the mortal, Adonis.
