episode 109

To Thanatos’ dismay, he finds himself sitting in Apollo’s car. Apollo makes a turn and asks him to get out the front seat. He says he needs an “eye candy” to offset Thanatos’ Underworld “stank.”

He goes into a house where a flower nymph, Daphne, lives. They walk into his car together, saying how excited she is to ride Apollo’s famous chariot and how her followers are going to freak out.

She is surprised to see Thanatos in the back seat. Apollo explains that he is just giving Thanatos a ride. Meanwhile, Thanatos texts the Snarky group chat how “this is actually the worst.” A text from Thetis replies, “Take one for the team!”

“Thanatos, you look great!”

Daphne

Apollo feigns being upset over Persephone. Daphne tells him she’s here for him, as break-ups are hard. Thanatos appears, and Daphne runs to him, telling him he looks great. She conjures up laurel leaves around his hair after she muses that something is missing from his look. She apologizes for making him feel like a third wheel. Thanatos is visibly flustered, blushing a bit. Apollo frowns at him before he says in a forced smile that Astraeus is coming for a handover.

Since Astraeus and Apollo usually give Helios a break between shifts, Thanatos flies in to speak with him. He warns him to choose his questions wisely, as his heat is immense and only Sun Gods can withstand it.

Thanatos introduces himself, and Helios acknowledges him as the Son of Nyx. He calls Nyx a “spitfire.” Thanatos says that he has a few questions, and Helios offers to answer them since he’s not one of those “insufferable Olympians.”

Thanatos asks about Persephone. He describes how she looks like when Helios asks him, and Helios asks if he meant Rhea, who was a “spitfire.” Thanatos clarifies that he means Demeter’s daughter.

“You new gods are so uptight.”

Helios

episode 109

Helios complains about how Demeter was a piece of work. It is revealed that Demeter tried to bribe him to cover up for Persephone, but unfortunately, there isn’t much one can offer since Helios is chained.

Thanatos asks if he can elaborate, and realization dawns on Helios as he realizes Thanatos wants to know about “The Bringer of Death.”

He says that each and every one of them is capable of acts of wrath, but what Persephone did that day was something he’s never seen before.

Meanwhile, in the Underworld, Persephone is seen sneaking into the Acheron Beach with a bag at hand.

EASTER EGG & FUN FACTS

  • Helios and Nyx have a relationship history.

  • It is also implied that Helios had a crush on Rhea.

  • There is an obvious tension between generations of the gods. Helios calls Apollo an “asshole” and deems the Olympians as “insufferable.” Apollo also doesn’t seem to hold Helios to a certain level of respect.

NEW CHARACTER: ASTRAEUS

  • In Mythology, Astraeus was the Titan god of dusk and wind. He was married to Eos, the goddess of dawn, and had children: four Anemoi (winds) and five Astra Planeta (stars or planets)
