Episode 103: Meltdown

episode 103

Released: 22 March 2020

Hecate is talking to Minthe outside her apartment. Minthe is desperate to get back to Hades so she can apologize, but Hecate stops her, saying that sometimes people want to apologize to make themselves feel better. We have seen this method of abuse followed by an apology play out in the story before, possibly as a representation of the cycle of abuse in relationships, except now there is interference and the cycle is broken.

“Sometimes we want to aplogize. But really, it’s to make ourselves feel better.”

Hecate

Minthe is left alone in her apartment after not being able to take responsibility for her actions in front of Hecate. Thetis arrives at the apartment to shake her out of her pity party that is in full swing as Minthe is crying. While Hecate only suspends her, Minthe is still worried Hades will fire her and kick her out of the apartment. She doesn’t voice any concerns about his well-being. Thetis makes a remark about Minthe not being able to fake a pregnancy test, showing that Thetis is aware that the rumor about Hades’ sterility is true. When Minthe scoffs at the idea, Thetis snaps about Minthe suddenly being too good for it. The talk quickly focuses on Hades likely being with Persephone at the moment (which is true coincidentally) and Thetis responds that Goddess’s aren’t so infallible. She demonstrates her point by texting some nude pics from Zeus to Hera from a burner phone. She is proud of herself, but Minthe is afraid she’s making a mistake. Thetis thinks that Zeus has sent these salacious images to other women, so it would be hard to determine who leaked them.

episode 103

Thetis decides they need to go out to a club and take lots of pictures so Hades will get jealous. Minthe is not sure it will work but they head out to a club called Oceanidsss. They bypass the line, past Megaera and Tisiphone who know what happened. Meg is the hero of the episode and calls Minthe out for her horrible treatment of Hades. Minthe sees a sign over the bar calling her shit. She’s beginning to feel the social consequences of her actions. Thetis wants to go speak to Amphitrite, who happens to be there, but Minthe refuses as she’s afraid Amphitrite will judge her for what she's done. Thetis clearly does not enjoy Minthe’s depressed attitude and Minthe finally tells her that Hades was right, she is not her friend.
