“Don’t worry. You’re safe now.”
Hades
Hades carries her to his home, where Hecate and two grey-blue cleanup crew nymphs wait to assist.
Because she’s cold and her body is exhausted from using her powers on the tree, they take her to his pool. Hecate enters and performs what appears to be some magic, perhaps to warm the water.
In the water, Hecate tries to wake her, warning otherwise she may enter hibernation which could take years.
Hades says “No!” and leans over her, begging her to wake up, asking her to go to Sicily with him and introduce him to her favorite places, to help him remember his home.
As he holds her, the blue starts to seep away, she hugs him and opens her eyes. They are glowing in pale blue.
WHAT WE LEARNED
EASTER EGGS & OTHER FACTS
Unlike the tree branches Persephone grew in the hospital, the vines she grew in response to news of her arrest warrant were huge and grew out of control. They seemed to almost protect and keep her safe and/or lead Hades to her.
The cherry blossom is a flower of springtime and due to its short life span, can also represent the transient nature of life or youthful, feminine beauty. Persephone created this initially as a defense mechanism against the shades who attacked her in Tartarus, but it grew larger when she was on the run and almost went into hibernation.
“Diamonds You Will Die For” billboard ad found in the Underworld, the realm of the dead.
The connection here is the idea behind the trope that true love awakens (or in many stories, true love’s kiss). The comparison could also be made to Snow White.
Not only does Persephone have seriously long hair, there was a visual similarity to the Tartarus tree leading Hades Persephone that seemed to resonate with Rapunzel trapped in her tower.
