Artist Feature: Angel
How long have you done art? What mediums have you tried?
I have been into art ever since I can remember actually. It was back in elementary school where I would find myself picking up a pencil and paper and just drawing. The mediums I often used then were just pencil, marker and coloured pencils. By middle/high school, I started using illustration pens for my work. There were also those few rare times I water-coloured. It wasn't until 2016 when I got into digital art.
Even though I started out with only an outdated iPad and index finger, back then it opened a whole new world for me and my art. Now I upgraded to an iPad Pro with the addition of an apple pencil. Now I feel like I can do just about anything!
The art program I have been loyal to all these years is Autodesk Sketchbook. It was just what worked best for me. Lately, I've taken a liking to Procreate. All those "lazy man" brushes of foliage, water, and textures sure make life easier.
While most of my art is digital, I have been starting up traditional again. Mixed Media and acrylic paints are the main mediums I am working with.
How would you describe your style?
Oh I don't even know. I feel like it's a mashup of little qualities that I love about so many different artists and works. The colouring is done solid, while the shading is left a little unblended to give it texture. I also use plenty of highlights so everyone can see the art from miles away.
Tell us your Lore Olympus story. What got you into Lore Olympus? What made you stay?
After catching up on my usual webtoons on a late night in November 2019, I was curious to see why this one webtoon was frequently the top-rated. I promised to only give it a try and move on. But nah, lol, somewhere along the way, I might have fallen into a hole. Also, I may or may not have binge-read an entire webtoon that night.
What made me stay, was entirely everything. The beautiful story, the diverse characters, and the awesome webtoon creator. I even met so many amazing people within this fandom as well. Having something to look forward to every week and making fanart that people can enjoy made me feel like it was another place I can belong to.
If you could body snatch one LO character for a day, who would it be?
Hades. Do I need to say more? *wink wink*
Which Lore Olympus fan art are you most proud of and why?
I really love my angry Hades wrapped in red vines fanart. I love how much emotion I put into it. When I was sketching the lineart out, I used rough, and jagged lines. I felt the raw emotion as I was bringing him to life.
Any advice for someone looking to build their art skills?
You hear it everywhere, and you will hear it from me too: Practice. Keep drawing.
Look at tutorials and try them out. I follow a million artists and admire their work. If you see a quality you love about their art, you can incorporate it into your own style to make an entirely unique style. Another thing I do is look at inspiration and references on Pinterest.
The whole world of art is at your fingertips because of our devices. We are so lucky to have it as simple as this.
Take a feel at what you enjoy best. Is it digital art, or is it a traditional medium? Never stop your imagination, and always keep drawing. You have the ability to create an entire universe with your hand.
Who did you get on our Hades' dog character quiz? And do you agree?
Aww I got Big John and I could not agree more! I really need constant cuddles in Hades arms.
