“The hardest part about cooking and baking? The fear of screwing up.”

Emy has the ambitious goal of creating every dish that appears in Lore Olympus! She’s already 20+ creations in, and her work is staggering. We plan to share as she continues, but sat down with some questions to get to know this multi-talented creative more.

How long have you been into cooking and baking? What got you interested?

I got into baking about 10 years ago. I began baking Christmas cookies as a way to give family and friends gifts while I was an unemployed university student. I only started cooking more complex dishes in the past year, as an indoor hobby during the lockdown.

Tell us your Lore Olympus story. What got you into Lore Olympus? What made you stay?

I discovered Lore Olympus in April 2020. A panel popped up on my instagram explore page. The colour palette caught my attention. Being familiar with Greek myths, I dug in. I stayed up the first night until 2 am reading the first 100 chapters. I fell fast and hard!  Rachel’s story-telling and foreshadowing sucked me in. I love the story and predicting the next episode!

If you could body snatch one LO character for a day, who would it be?

Either Clotho or Echo - they would have the best gossip smirks.

Which Lore Olympus inspired dish are you most proud of and why?

Recreating Persephone’s Patisseries was a big production. It took almost two weeks  to plan and research and about 4-5 days to make all the patisseries. A close second is Hades’ croissant. It was the most complicated dish, and I learned a lot working on it. It was also the dish that gave me the confidence to attempt Persephone’s Patisseries.

Any advice for someone looking to improve their skills in the kitchen?

  1. Julia Child once said, “[w]ith enough butter anything is good.” She's 100% right!

  2. Do your research ahead of time. Look at multiple recipes: what do they have in common? Are there any tricks hiding in the comments to the recipe? I found this helped in understanding recipes inside and out before starting.

  3. Take your time. I like to prep all my food and measure it out ahead of time. This prep adds to how long the recipe takes, but it creates a less hectic process and eases my cooking anxiety.

Do you have goals or aspirations for your cooking and baking?

I hope I inspire people who are interested in cooking/baking to try it! Cooking and baking can be intimidating if you didn't grow up watching people in the kitchen. I try to share my mess-ups in my stories so people won't give up if a dish doesn't work out on the first attempt. That’s the hardest part about cooking/baking: the fear of screwing up.

Just for fun: Who did you get on this quiz? And do you agree?

Cordon Bleu! We share the Napoleon syndrome! Also I’m sure Aprilsketchco did a piece of Cordon bleu as chef Cordon Ramsey! It fits perfectly !
