Cosplayer Feature: Cwen
How long have you been doing cosplay?
I have been into cosplay since 2015 and in full honesty, I only started because of Youtube Videos and London MCM comic con. Me and a few of my friends decided to visit it just to see what it is all about, but me being extra meant that I wanted to do it in cosplay.
Who is your favorite Lore Olympus character to cosplay?
I love both Hera and Hecate. They were both really fun makeup wise and they are absolutely fierce.
What is the most memorable cosplay?
Well. It would probably be my Mother Gothel since it is quite literally a handsewn mess made of 3 blankets, some fancy ribbons, and 2 stacked wigs that I put together in one night. Somehow she has become one of my favorite characters ever to cosplay and with some magical power, she has actually brought home a win from Jcon in Dublin.
Tell us your Lore Olympus story.
Well, at first a ton of Persephone cosplayers popped on my screen while scrolling instagram. I was literally like ooh that looks cool, but it was not enough to actually make me read it. Then, one of my mutuals who is a drag performer did a very handsome Hades makeup test and wrote those magic words in their caption: "I haven't cosplayed in ages, but Lore Olympus got me." Five hours later, I was hooked.
What other fandoms are you in? What’s special about the Lore Olympus fandom?
Oh Hetalia, My Hero Academia, Black Butler, Disney, Studio Ghibli, Percy Jackson and more.
Lore Olympus is my first webtoon and in full honesty I just love how supportive the Fandom is. I never thought that my Hera cosplay would be that well perceived and I do have to say that I enjoy all the fan theories a lot.
If you could body snatch one LO character for a day, who would it be?
Still I would have to say Hera or Hecate. Mainly because they both have incredible wardrobes and can sass around even the kings.
What does cosplay mean to you?
Before the quarantine, cosplay was a way for me to express myself and play around with different characters. What I have realized through this whole pandemic, it is sort of a way for me to keep myseld sane and get through this insanity.
Cosplay also helped me through a ton when I moved to Ireland to do a gap year and I worked as an Au pair. It was a bit weird for me to make friends, since I had a mild panic about English not being my first language, but going to the last Eirtakon in Ireland is literally the reason why I actually ended up making friends in Ireland. I just walked into a Hetalia panel, sat down in the front row and ended up going to the McDonald's with some of the panelists.
Any advice for a new cosplayer out there?
Do it. Just do it. If you are afraid of something, then believe me, there is no reason for it. Just find a character you love and do it.
Just for fun: Who did you get on the Hades’ dog character quiz?
Cordon Bleu. Absolutely. Sassy and needs attention? Is a fluff ball of rage? Sounds like me.
