Cosplayer Feature: Kataga

“Mistakes are the best way to improve your work. Do not force yourself to be perfect - nobody is.”

Kataga is a student from Austria very passionate about cosplay and makeup. She enjoys video games, cute animals and good food as much as dressing up as her favorite fictional characters.

How long have you been doing cosplay? What first got you interested?

I was really into Super Smash in 2015, which inspired me to create a costume for Sheik, my main character in the game. I also found out about conventions at that time and wanted to wear the costume there. I met so many amazing people there and made lots of friends. That’s what made me want to continue this hobby.

Who is your favorite Lore Olympus character to cosplay?

Daphne! I love her overall look and the blue spots on her skin (I have a soft spot for elf ears as well, haha). Plus her attitude and confidence is something I really adore about her.

When it comes to cosplaying with someone else from LO, it would be Persephone and Hades with my boyfriend Trident Crafts. This was a very special partner cosplay for me because I adore Hades and Persephone as a couple in the comic and to be able to show my love for them together with my partner makes me so happy.

What is the most memorable cosplay you did?

Probably Zero Suit Samus. Many people told me that they found me because of this cosplay.

Tell us your Lore Olympus story.

A close friend got me into it. I had seen artwork of it before on Instagram ads and loved the style but when I started reading it, I completely fell into the rabbit hole. I love Greek Mythology and love stories with a twist. Nevertheless, the LO community was the biggest reason for me to stay. I haven’t really been into another fandom with so many talented and nice people.

What other fandoms are you in?

I’m not really in a lot of other specific fandoms besides Lore Olympus, to be honest. That's the community I've been in the longest! I am in a big Metroid group because Zero Suit Samus cosplayers support each other, which is great, because that’s rarely the case with people cosplaying the same character.

As I mentioned before, the people in the LO community are so amazing in many ways. I’m in a smaller Fast Pass group and groups for creating cosplay group projects where we discuss what happened in each chapter and talk about which characters we want to cosplay. Lore Olympus has so many great characters that there will always be new cosplay material, which is why I’ll continue to cosplay new characters or new versions.

If you could body snatch one LO character for a day, who would it be?

That’s a difficult one but I would say Hecate because I am really into magic, spells and witchy stuff. I would love to know how her typical day would look like and how it’s like to have her attitude. Her powers and style are also absolutely fantastic.

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is my getaway and my safe-place. With cosplay I have the opportunity to combine many hobbies and meet lovely people with the same interests. When I entered the cosplay community, I finally felt like I belonged somewhere and can be the person I actually am. Cosplay also made me a lot more confident.

Any advice for a new cosplayer out there?

My survival guide:

1. If you want to make your own cosplays, planning is everything! This is a common topic when it comes to cosplay but avoid Concrunch as much as you can. You will be so much happier if you give yourself enough time to create the cosplay you are dreaming about. Of course, a little pressure can do wonders, so set realistic deadlines for yourself!

2. Mistakes are the best way to improve your work. Do not force yourself to be perfect - nobody is.

3. It doesn’t matter what others say about your way of cosplaying: No matter if you make your own cosplays, buy them or just post selfies wearing a wig and make-up, every kind of cosplay content is valid.

Just for fun: Who did you get on the Hades’ dog character quiz?

Fudge – and yes, absolutely! I am also happy as long as I am fluffy and smell nice, haha!
